Cause for Motion

by Solomon, Assistant Editor

Something in the water
or the air that moves me,
inimical to stillness, lurches
forward or backward, but
always about,
up and about,
ever downward.

Spirals, chisels, digs
deep inside esophagus,
sinks in gum
and marrow, narrows
sinew, tightens muscle and
splices,
plies my limbs onward.
